Back in Kerens TX Talk, and What Comes Next

A thank you to the Kerens TX Talk admins, a note on why open forums matter, and a preview of the Kerens coverage coming up: records request experience, candidate forum clips, and why I am not doing individual candidate calls for this election.

I got unsuspended from Kerens TX Talk, and I wanted to say thanks.

To the admins who lifted the suspension: I appreciate it. I know I can be a lot. I ask questions publicly, I post long things, and I show up to meetings nobody invited me to. Forums like Kerens TX Talk only work when people with different views can share the same space and disagree without getting locked out. A community forum that silences one side stops being a forum. Kerens TX Talk is still the real thing, and I am glad to be back in it.

What's Coming in Kerens

A few things are in the pipeline.

Records requests. I have been filing Kerens and Navarro County records requests as part of ongoing work. I will write about that experience soon. Not the findings yet. The turnaround times, the charges, the friendliness, the resistance, the small details that tell you what kind of city you are dealing with. Kerens readers will recognize parts of it. Other parts may surprise them.

Candidate forum clips. I attended the Kerens candidate forum and recorded it. I am clipping each candidate's segment into an individual video and posting those over the next few days. Residents should be able to watch a single candidate without scrubbing through an hour of footage. The goal is to let the candidates speak for themselves.

No individual candidate calls for Kerens. I considered it. After watching the forum, I decided the forum already says what needs to be said. The candidates showed up. They answered questions. They gave residents a clear look at who they are. Anything I added on top of that would be noise. I will still cover Kerens issues as they come, but my coverage of this election is going to center on the forum and on public records, not on a round of one-on-one interviews I am not sure anyone asked for.

A Note to Readers Generally

If you follow Watchtower, you have probably noticed that I bounce around. One day it is Italy. The next day it is Tool. Then Seven Points, then Hubbard, then Kerens, then Gun Barrel City. It is not a plan. I do not get to choose where the stories take me. People send tips. Records come back. Meetings happen. Something moves, and I follow it.

I do try to follow the stories that keep readers interested, and I pay attention when comments and messages tell me what is landing and what is not. If there is a city, an issue, or an angle you want covered, send a note. I read everything. I do not respond to everything, but I read everything.

Thank you for following along. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for pushing back when I get something wrong. The coverage is better for all of it.

More on Kerens very soon.
