Goodlow Election: Five Candidates and an Unfinished Audit
With an incumbent stepping down, five candidates are set to compete for a seat on the Goodlow City Council this May.
Five candidates have filed to run for the Goodlow City Council, according to Ruthie Washington, Goodlow's City Secretary, who confirmed the list this week.
The candidates are:
- Jeffery Baxter
- Jeffery Betts
- Sterling Cotton
- Arlene Owen
- Wayne Owen
Incumbent Tina Littleton will not be seeking reelection.
A Small Town With Big Questions
Goodlow is one of the smallest incorporated communities in Navarro County, with a population of roughly 200. Despite its size, the city faces real governance challenges. The most significant: Goodlow has not completed its annual audit obligations.
Whoever wins this seat will step into a council that still needs to address those outstanding obligations. The new council member will also inherit the responsibility of helping guide a community that has dealt with property disputes and limited municipal resources for years.
Why Showing Up Matters
Goodlow's last election cycle saw strong civic engagement, with the community turning out for candidate forums. That kind of participation makes a difference in a town this size, where every voice in the room carries real weight.
Residents who want to stay informed and involved should plan to attend upcoming council meetings. With a new council member joining and audit obligations still unresolved, these meetings are where the decisions get made. The more residents who show up, the more accountable those decisions become.
The general election is scheduled for May.
